With the ever growing technology of broadband there are now more users online
than ever, keeping your PC’s and servers safe from unwelcome hackers is no
longer an easy task.
Without taking the necessary steps to protect your workstations, you could
run the risk of intruders taking control of your resources and using them as
they please, as well as being infected with viruses that could result in a fatal
malfunction.
There are three main ways to protect your system; a firewall (hardware and
software), antivirus software and the encryption of data. At Higs Solutions we
can provide guidance and installation on every setup.

Firewall – Small Office Home Office (SOHO) + Small Medium Enterprise (SME)
A firewall is a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a
private network. Firewalls can come in two forms hardware and software, or a
combination of both. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized
Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet,
especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through
the firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the
specified security criteria.
Antivirus
Antivirus software is a type of application you install to protect your
system from viruses, worms and other malicious code. Most antivirus programs
will monitor traffic while you surf the Web, scan incoming email and file
attachments and periodically check all local files for the existence of any
known malicious code.
Data Encryption
Encryption is a secure process for keeping your sensitive and confidential
information private. It is a process by which bits of data are mathematically
jumbled with a password-key. The Encryption process makes the data unreadable
until decrypted by the authorized recepient(s).
